LVC Companies’ Fire Protection Systems Safeguard Itasca County Justice Center

LVC Companies’ fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems are critical fire and life safety components of the renovated and expanded Itasca County Justice Center.

LVC Companies is proud to protect the newly renovated and expanded Itasca County Justice Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, with the installation of advanced fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems.

Major Fire & Life Safety Upgrades
Managed by Contegrity Group, the justice center project included the construction of a new jail facility, expanded government offices, and an addition to the existing county courthouse. This phase addressed inmate overcrowding, streamlined operations and enhanced security.

Phase two remodeled the old annex, updated court administration areas, and relocated probation services to the main building.

LVC played a critical role in this transformation by designing and installing cutting-edge fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems to protect lives and property.

LVC technicians installed a dual-panel fire alarm system to simultaneously monitor all areas of the new building and existing structure.

Fire Alarm System: Smart, Scalable, Secure
LVC leaned on more than 40 years of experience to install two advanced fire alarm panels based on the NOTIFIER by Honeywell ONYX Series NFS2-3030 platform.

One panel serves the new building, while the other covers the existing structure. Thanks to dual-mode operation, facility managers can monitor the entire complex from either panel.

Key features of the fire alarm system include:
• Voice activation and building-wide paging
• Remote annunciation from the guard desk
• Smoke-control technology to isolate specific areas
• Redundant communication pathways for every device to maintain functionality even in emergencies

LVC’s certified, expert technicians ran over 60,000 feet of fire alarm wire throughout the facility, overcoming design challenges such as re-routing wire paths to accommodate existing architecture while boosting efficiency and reducing customer costs.

Fire Sprinkler Systems: Tailored for Every Environment
LVC’s Fire Sprinkler Division handled both the remodel and new construction phases.

Highlights include:
Remodel Work
• Full removal of outdated sprinkler systems across three floors
• Installation of new piping and fittings throughout the existing structure

LVC’s fire sprinkler system protects the entire complex in case of fire.

New Construction
• Deployment of five wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems
• Installation of a standpipe system for fast firefighter access to water on all floors
• Installation of a pre-action fire sprinkler system in a critical server room. A pre-action system is ideal for protecting sensitive equipment and other assets in environments like server rooms, data centers, libraries, or MRI suites. It requires two triggers to activate—smoke or heat detection, plus sprinkler head activation—minimizing the risk of accidental discharge and property damage.
